New Jersey has approved five new online programs through the New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning, allowing certified teachers to earn credentials in special education and other shortage areas, such as the sciences. The programs, approved by the state Department of Education on Oct. 7, aim to address the state’s chronic shortage of special education teachers by providing a more affordable and convenient path to certification. Robert Goodman, the center’s executive director, described the initiative as a potential groundbreaking solution to the teacher shortage.
