Former DeRidder, Louisiana mayor Misty Roberts, 42, was arrested on August 1, 2024, on a third-degree rape charge, just days after resigning from office. Roberts’ resignation on July 27 came amidst an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a minor. The investigation, which began on July 26, included interviews with two juveniles, one of whom is the alleged victim. Roberts turned herself in after an arrest warrant was issued. Her lawyer claimed she was unaware of the charges until just before her surrender and maintains her innocence.
