Autonomous Mowers in School Fields of the Future

The Ministry of Education is planning to purchase up to 30 autonomous lawnmowers (ALMs) to streamline landscaping and reduce maintenance burdens at small and rural schools. This initiative is part of a broader reform of caretaking, which also includes exploring shared caretakers and a dedicated phone line for urgent property issues. The ALMs will use advanced technology similar to that in Tesla’s self-driving cars, featuring computer vision and AI to manage lawn care efficiently. The ministry has already identified 30 schools for this pilot project and will start with eight mowers to ensure their effectiveness. The aim is to enhance property management and support principals, especially in smaller and more remote schools.
