Students Face Reduced Subject Choice and Larger Classes Amid Teacher Shortages

Teachers’ unions in Ireland have raised alarms about a worsening teacher recruitment crisis that threatens students’ education. The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) warns that the shortage of teachers will limit subject options, increase class sizes, and jeopardize planned changes to the Senior Cycle curriculum. TUI general secretary Michael Gillespie criticized the Department of Education for not addressing the crisis adequately, pointing out that it impacts the quality of education and the feasibility of curriculum reforms.
