Despite the absence of a legal requirement, parents often have to pay tuition for their children’s high school education. However, a change is coming in Tokyo, as Governor Yuriko Koike has announced the abolition of the income cap for tuition waivers starting from the 2024 academic year. This means that more students in Tokyo, regardless of their family income, will have the opportunity to attend high school without the financial burden of tuition.
