A Michigan school district has denied a mother’s request to observe her dyslexic child’s classroom, which she claims violates state law. Michele Maleszyk wanted to better understand the classroom reading interventions for her second-grade child. The request was denied by the child’s teacher, Karen Bush, who stated that the observation had already been accommodated in the past. Maleszyk, a former teacher, appealed to the district superintendent, but was again denied, with the superintendent asserting that the teacher’s responses had been open and transparent.
