AG finds Palatine Schools Broke Law by using Cops to Ticket Students, Urges Other Districts to Review Policies

The Illinois Attorney General has declared that it is illegal for school districts to ask police to ticket misbehaving students, marking the strongest rebuke yet of the practice. An investigation into Township High School District 211 in Palatine found that the district violated the law by directing police to fine students for school-related behavior, disproportionately affecting Black and Latino students. While the Attorney General’s office recommended that other districts review their practices, it did not issue formal guidance or alert other districts, meaning the impact of its findings may be limited.
