The Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District topped the Syracuse area in the latest statewide assessment tests for English Language Arts (ELA) and math. The district ranked 20th in the state for math, with 85% of students testing proficient, and tied for 26th in ELA with 73% proficiency. Most of the top-ranking districts were located in Downstate New York, particularly on Long Island and in Westchester County. The state Department of Education released these results for grades three through eight for the 2023-2024 school year. Overall, the Quogue Union Free School District in Suffolk County ranked No. 1, with 98% proficiency in math and 95% in ELA. In contrast, the Syracuse City School District had some of the lowest proficiency scores in the state.
