Prof. Edoba Omoregie has been appointed the 11th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, taking over from Prof. Lilian Salami. In his inaugural speech, Omoregie committed to transforming the university by creating a supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff. He plans to focus on innovative funding, improving access to education, advancing infrastructure, and enhancing staff welfare. Despite challenges like limited funding and frequent strikes, Omoregie remains optimistic about rejuvenating the university system with these priorities, and he praised the Federal Government’s efforts through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
