New York City schools recently participated in the fifth biannual Plastic Free Lunch Day, part of a national initiative to eliminate single-use plastics in school cafeterias. The week-long event, held from Nov. 18 to 22, was led by Cafeteria Culture and the Urban School Food Alliance (USFA). The initiative aims to reduce plastic waste and promote environmental awareness and student involvement. Plastic Free Lunch Day was originally launched in NYC by Cafeteria Culture and fifth-grade students from P.S.15 Patrick F. Daly Magnet School in Red Hook.
