Dale Davis was reflecting on her 2-year-old grandson Amir, whom she almost lost the day before. While driving home from a doctor’s appointment, Davis noticed Amir choking and quickly pulled over to perform CPR. As traffic zoomed by on Broad Street, she felt helpless until Anidra Ragin, a Sumter social worker, noticed the situation. Ragin stopped her truck to block traffic, approached Davis, and helped with CPR until Amir began to breathe. Paramedics arrived shortly after and rushed Amir to the hospital. Davis praised Ragin as her “angel,” and Ragin, though grateful for the recognition, emphasized the importance of helping others in times of crisis.
