Sunday Uche was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lagos State Sexual Offences & Domestic Violence Court for defiling a 4-year-old girl. The incident occurred on February 2, 2017, when the child came to Uche’s house begging for groundnuts. Uche, who worked as a groundnut trader, admitted to having sexual intercourse with the minor. Justice Ramon Oshodi found Uche guilty beyond reasonable doubt, citing evidence including statements from the investigating police officer, the victim’s mother, medical reports, and the defendant’s own statements. The judge described the offense as “heinous” and deserving of the maximum punishment under the law. The judge emphasized the gravity of the offense, noting the exploitation of the child’s vulnerability and trust, as well as the potential long-lasting physical and psychological harm inflicted on the victim.
