North Dakotans Look to International Schooling Systems

Recent complaints about the American school system have led to increased interest in international education models, particularly among parents in North Dakota. A survey by Test Prep Insight, involving 3,000 parents, revealed a strong preference for China’s education system, which is competitive, exam-based, and emphasizes memorization, long school hours, and extensive tutoring. While many parents favored the Chinese model, other popular international systems included those from Finland, Japan, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Singapore, South Korea, and Estonia. However, when asked about educational priorities, parents expressed a stronger interest in fostering emotional well-being and life skills (37%) and promoting creativity and critical thinking (35%), while only 16% valued vocational skills and a mere 12% emphasized academic excellence and rigorous testing.
