The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) disclosed that approximately one-third of schoolchildren in Kano State lack basic literacy and numeracy skills. Michael Obanda, the Senior Education Manager for UNICEF’s Kano Field Office, made this revelation during a Stakeholders’ Meeting on the EU-supported Education and Youth Empowerment (EYE) project. The meeting, organized by the Kano State Ministry of Education, UNICEF, and EU, took place at the Covid-19 Conference Hall of the Kano State Ministry of Education. Obanda highlighted that Kano, along with other states in the North-West, has the highest number of out-of-school children.
