“The Science of Siblings” is a new series diving into how our siblings shape us, from our finances to our mental health and even down to our genes.
In one story, we meet Paris Lekuuk, a 15-year-old Samburu boy from Northern Kenya, whose life is entwined with the unique customs of his people. Paris breaks away from the traditional path of becoming a “moran,” a teenage warrior tasked with herding cattle in the mountains. Instead, he embarks on a journey to education, leaving behind the brotherhood he once cherished.
For Paris, the transition isn’t easy. Raised among the rugged landscapes of Kenya, Paris finds solace and camaraderie in the bond of the Moran brotherhood. Yet, faced with the harsh realities of climate change and personal loss, Paris decides to pursue a different future. With determination and the support of his fellow Morans, Paris sets foot in a school for the first time, eager to learn and chart his own course.
