On May 28, gunmen suspected to be separatist fighters attacked a school in Bamenda, located in Cameroon’s conflict-ridden Anglophone Northwest region. The attack injured one student and a police officer, who were both taken to a hospital for treatment. The gunmen opened fire outside the school while students were taking a public exam, causing chaos and prompting security forces to pursue the attackers. Separatist fighters in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon have a history of kidnapping teachers and students, including the abduction of 170 students and their teacher in Kumbo in 2019.
