Dr. David Shofoyeke, Director general of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), has identified poor teachers’ professional development as the reason for the poor quality of education in the north west region of Nigeria, mentioned that teachers in the northwest region need better training to improve education quality there. He spoke at a workshop for school leaders about managing schools well in today’s world. He said that many kids in Nigeria struggle with reading and math. He believes that if teachers get better training, kids can learn more. Shofoyeke also mentioned that schools need to be safe and friendly places for students to do well.
