Traffic police conducted surprise checks on Tuesday morning and discovered a troubling disregard for safety among drivers responsible for transporting schoolchildren. During the operation from 7am to 9.30am, 3,016 school vehicles were inspected, resulting in the detection of 23 drivers who were driving under the influence of alcohol. This prompted authorities to consider legal actions, including possible charges under the Juvenile Justice Act against school managements for endangering children’s safety. Drivers found intoxicated had their licenses seized and faced penalties under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Additionally, 11 vehicles lacking fitness certificates were impounded. The crackdown underscores the priority of ensuring children’s safety during their commute, urging schools and parents alike to take proactive measures in safeguarding students.
