Fire department called to HISD campus as district combats second day of near-freezing weather

Temperatures slowly crept above freezing again Wednesday morning after a dayslong cold snap blanketed much of Texas, leaving some Houston ISD schools with lingering heating issues while district officials in the region’s northern reaches prepared for potential freezing rain.

Heating issues lingered for Ray K. Daily and Nat Q Henderson elementary schools Wednesday morning after both had lapses in heat Tuesday. Henderson’s boiler was repaired as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, HISD said, while the Houston Fire Department responded to carbon monoxide concerns at Daily after a faulty boiler caused some rooms to reach 80 degrees.
