A Hamilton County deputy arrested last week was reportedly exchanging explicit messages with a 13-year-old he met on Reddit, according to police reports. Johnathan Allen, 25, was placed on paid leave after he was detained on charges of sexual and criminal exploitation of a minor in South Carolina, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said.
Allen joined the department as a jail deputy in 2021 and had recently completed the basic law enforcement academy at the time of his arrest, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. He was participating in the sheriff’s formalized field training program.
After his arrest in Hamilton County, Allen was taken to a jail in South Carolina, jail records show. There is no bond listed.
