Good news for Indian families: The new Labour Party government in the UK has decided not to raise the income threshold for British nationals and permanent residents wanting to bring family members to the UK. The proposed increase to Rs 41.5 lakh, introduced by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to curb immigration, has been halted. The current annual income requirement of £29,000 (about Rs 31.2 lakh) will remain in place until the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) reviews its impact on families. The MAC will also assess how key sectors, particularly IT and engineering, depend on international talent.
