Teenagers prone to excessive internet use are more likely to skip school

A study suggests that excessive internet use among young people is linked to increased school absences, both due to illness and truancy, especially among teenage girls. However, factors like adequate sleep, exercise, and a supportive relationship with parents can mitigate these effects. The research, conducted in Finland and published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood journal, surveyed over 86,000 14 to 16-year-old students. Excessive internet use was associated with higher rates of truancy and medically explained absences from school. Good parental relationships and healthy lifestyle habits were found to reduce the risk of school absences.
