Every generation crafts its own distinct slang, often amusing or perplexing the older generations. Gen Alpha is no different. Morning Consult’s survey found that a significant portion of parents, mainly Millennials with a sprinkle of Gen Zers, have encountered language from their Gen Alpha children that they don’t comprehend. Moreover, children who engage in online socialization are more likely to employ perplexing phrases than those who don’t. These neologisms are pervasive and often transcend generational boundaries; for example, “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) has long been used in sports. Some popular terms include “bet” for agreement or doubt, “sus” for suspicious, “bussin'” for something excellent, and “cap” for boasting or falsehood.
