On Thursday night, Peoria school board members Heather Rooks and Becky Proudfit unexpectedly voted against extending a federal mental health grant that funded social workers in schools. Despite Superintendent KC Somers’ plea to maintain the program for the benefit of students and families, the tie vote ended the $275,000 grant, which was approved by the U.S. Department of Education for current social worker contracts.
