Mercy Professor an Expert on Early Childhood Education Publishes Two New Scholarly Works

February 9 2024- Helge Wasmuth, Ph.D., a prominent scholar and chair of the Childhood Education Department at Mercy University, has gained increased recognition with the publication of two new books centered on Friedrich Froebel, a 19th-century German pioneer of early childhood education. The biography titled “Finding Froebel: The Man Who Invented Kindergarten,” where Wasmuth is the lead author, is set for release in mid-December by Bloomsbury Books. This follows the November release of “The Bloomsbury Handbook to Friedrich Froebel,” an anthology of scholarly articles for which Wasmuth served as a co-editor. His extensive knowledge is also reflected in his teaching, where he emphasizes the continued relevance of Froebel’s ideas about play as a learning tool for young children in today’s context. Wasmuth has previously published a book focused on Froebel’s pedagogy and has been invited to contribute his expertise to various platforms, including a podcast, a webinar, a documentary film, and as a member of the executive committee of a society of Froebel scholars.
