Emily Green, a 16-year-old from Chelsea, became an Eagle Scout after years of dedication, even before the Boy Scouts officially allowed girls in 2019. Green found the activities in Girl Scouts didn’t align with her interests, preferring the outdoor adventures she experienced with her brother. Despite earning her Eagle Scout status, the organisation’s name still included “Boy Scouts,” prompting a fellow scout to create a custom patch for her. However, the organisation has now changed its name to Scouting America to reflect inclusivity, a move welcomed by troop leaders like John Judge and parents like Lizabeth Valerio, who emphasise the importance of equal opportunities for all.
