March 22 2024- A recent study investigating the link between toddler language development and screen time revealed an intriguing finding: the issue isn’t necessarily the duration of screen time, but rather the purpose behind it. The study focused on children aged 17 to 30 months, with caregivers documenting their screen time activities and reasons for usage. Screen time activities included watching videos, playing video games, engaging in video chat, and reading e-books. Caregivers noted whether screen time was used for calming or babysitting, educational purposes, or to interact with family members. These factors were then compared to the children’s vocabulary and ability to string together two or more words.
