In November 1970, amidst the onset of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, Gerard Gorman experienced a disturbing incident at St Colman’s College. As an 11-year-old new pupil, Gorman was summoned by Fr Malachy Finegan, a teacher known for being caring compared to others at the school. Finegan called Gorman into a room, closed the door, and asked him to sit on a sofa. Despite the room’s seemingly benign setting with a view of playing fields and amenities like a TV and sweets, this encounter would haunt Gorman for over fifty years.
