Father Accused of Starving 4-Year-Old Son to Death: ‘Able to See His Bones’

Brandon Lee Cervera is on trial in Texas for allegedly starving his 4-year-old son, Benjamin, to death in 2021. Prosecutors claim that Cervera and his then-wife, Miranda Casarez, failed to provide adequate nourishment, leading to Benjamin’s death from starvation, which was ruled a homicide. Testimony during the trial revealed that Benjamin had visible injuries, including bruises, and was severely underweight at 28 lbs. Cervera disputes these claims, suggesting Benjamin’s injuries were self-inflicted due to behavioral issues, and his defense attorney argues that the boy was always small and that doctors had not raised concerns about his health prior to his death. Contrarily, medical professionals, including the Bexar County Chief Medical Examiner, supported the assertion that Benjamin died from starvation, citing evidence of malnourishment.
