N.J. School Violated Student Rights with ‘Equity and Diversity’ Survey, Feds Find

The U.S. Department of Education has determined that Cedar Grove School District violated federal student privacy laws by distributing an “equity and diversity” survey that included questions about religious affiliation and income. The investigation was prompted by complaints from parents in 2021, who alleged that the district did not adequately inform guardians about the survey or provide an opt-out option for students.
