In response to concerns about systemic barriers for Black and Indigenous students, Karen Hudson, principal of Auburn Drive High School in Dartmouth, N.S., has revised the approach to Individual Program Plans (IPPs) at her school. A 2016 review found that these plans, meant as a last resort for students struggling with the provincial curriculum, were disproportionately applied to Black and Indigenous students. Hudson has emphasized the importance of providing appropriate support to all students and has introduced changes to the IPP process to better support these students.
