The Hanover School Division is laying off 93 educational assistants due to an unexpected loss of federal funding for Jordan’s Principle programming. The division stated that this situation is beyond its control and is working to find a long-term solution. Superintendent Joe Thiessen explained that funding for the program, previously provided by the province, switched to the federal government this school year. Although the division reapplied for federal funding, they were informed too late to prevent the layoffs. The division acknowledged the significant impact on employees, students, and school communities, and is committed to minimizing disruptions to student learning.
