Dr. Edith Onovore testified at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court regarding a 10-year-old rape victim who was still bleeding three days after the assault. The incident occurred on April 19, 2022, at an uncompleted building in Epe, Lagos State. The accused, Samuel Olaide, allegedly dragged the victim from her mother’s shop, gagged her with a white handkerchief, and sexually assaulted her. Dr. Onovore’s medical examination at Epe General Hospital revealed that the victim had bruises on her outer vagina, a missing hymen, and continued bleeding that had soaked through her sanitary pad and clothing. The case is being prosecuted by the Lagos State Government, with Olaide charged under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. The doctor, who has 12 years of medical experience, also conducted HIV screening for both the victim and the defendant.
