60% of supermarket Baby Foods are Unhealthy: Research

New research from The George Institute for Global Health reveals that nearly two-thirds of infant and toddler foods in U.S. supermarkets are unhealthy. The study, which analyzed 651 products from various grocery chains, found that 60% did not meet nutritional standards and often featured misleading promotional claims. Key issues included inadequate protein, excessive sugar, and high sodium content. The rise in baby food pouch sales—up 900% over 13 years—was noted, with less than 7% of pouches meeting recommended sugar levels. The study highlights concerns over misleading packaging and inadequate nutrient content, stressing that early childhood nutrition is critical for long-term health.
