A judge rejects the plea to dismiss charges against the teenage passenger involved in the hit-and-run incident resulting in the death of a 13-year-old girl from Commerce Township

An Oakland County judge denied a motion to dismiss charges against Gavin Kassab, 19, of Commerce Township, who was a passenger in a Jeep Gladiator involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed 13-year-old Piper Carrothers in Walled Lake. Alongside manslaughter and reckless driving charges, Kassab faces first-degree fleeing and eluding causing death and two counts of second-degree fleeing and eluding causing death. His trial is set to begin on April 8. The case against the teen driver is being handled in juvenile court, with no updates shared due to the juvenile’s status. Additionally, Kassab faces separate charges related to sex crimes against a 16-year-old girl in West Bloomfield, with his trial scheduled for April 29.
