Branden Durst files tort claim against Idaho Department of Education

March 5 2024- Branden Durst, former Democratic lawmaker, Republican candidate for State Superintendent, and current superintendent of the West Bonner County School District, has filed a tort claim against the Idaho State Board of Education and the Idaho Department of Education. Durst alleges that the denial of an emergency provisional certificate by the State Board of Education led to his job loss and financial setbacks. The tort claim seeks $1.25 million in monetary compensation. In September 2023, Durst indicated his intention to leave his superintendent position, citing a desire for an amicable exit. His ability to perform the job had been questioned, sparking controversies and community meetings regarding his political affiliations, history in politics, and educational qualifications
