Judge Denies Request for Restraining Order to Stop JCPS’ New Transportation Plan

Parents of Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) students seeking to halt a new transportation plan through a temporary restraining order have been denied by a judge. The request aimed to pause JCPS’s decision to eliminate transportation to magnet and traditional schools affecting over 14,000 students. The lawsuit alleges these cuts disproportionately harm students of color and violate civil rights, potentially forcing them into less desirable neighborhood schools. The judge denied the restraining order, citing a lack of immediate harm demonstrated in the complaint and requiring plaintiffs to correct procedural errors before reconsideration. JCPS contends the cuts are necessary due to ongoing challenges in recruiting bus drivers, causing significant delays in previous years.
