SPS Superintendent to Withdraw School Closure Plan Amid Community Division

The superintendent of Seattle Public Schools, Dr. Brent Jones, announced that he would abandon a controversial plan to close schools in Fall 2025. The proposal, which aimed to save $5.5 million, had been dividing the community. In his letter to families, Dr. Jones stated that instead of closing four elementary schools, the district would focus on addressing its $94 million budget deficit through state support and a potential levy renewal.
