SPS Superintendent to Withdraw School Closure Plan Amid Community Division

The superintendent of Seattle Public Schools, Dr. Brent Jones, announced he will withdraw a controversial plan to close four elementary schools in Fall 2025. The $5.5 million cost-saving proposal had caused division within the community. Instead, the district will focus on addressing its $94 million budget shortfall with support from the state and potential levy renewal.
