Several private colleges, including Damelin, CityVarsity, Icesa City Campus, and Lyceum College, owned by Educor, one of southern Africa’s largest private education providers, are ordered to close due to allegations of fabricating exam results and other issues. Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande highlighted concerns about the colleges’ dysfunctionality, including financial irregularities and poor academic quality. Allegations of non-payment of staff salaries, corruption, and inflating student numbers were also raised. Over 13,000 students are affected, prompting calls for transfers to other institutions.
