Middle Schooler says she was Denied Bathroom After Getting Visible Period in Class

A 13-year-old student, Byllie Eighinger-Lemm, is advocating for change in her Washington state school district after being denied permission to use the restroom during her period at Yelm Middle School. Despite informing her teacher of her need, she was told to sit down and ultimately went to the bathroom without permission, leading to bleeding through her clothes. This resulted in her being sent to in-school suspension, which left her feeling humiliated and embarrassed. Byllie’s father, Bill Lemm, expressed his outrage over the treatment and noted that she missed school due to the embarrassment. The school district is currently investigating the incident, and Byllie hopes her experience will prevent similar situations for other students.
