Fleeing troubled public schools? Ohio voucher data shows many families already enrolled in private schools

March 4 2024- The number of Cuyahoga County students receiving state-funded scholarships to attend private schools has significantly increased this year following the expansion of the EdChoice-Expansion scholarship program by state lawmakers. The program, one of five school voucher initiatives, was broadened over the summer to provide at least partial tuition payments to families of all income levels. The data indicates a substantial rise in the number of students receiving tuition payments through this program, surging from approximately 2,500 students in the previous year to nearly 9,200 students in the current year across the county’s 31 districts.
