Abuja School Faces N500m Lawsuit as Bullied Student Demands Public Apology

The family of Namtira Bwala, a student at Lead British International School in Abuja, has taken legal action against the school following a recent bullying incident involving Namtira. Videos circulating on social media showed Namtira being slapped by her classmate, Maryam, while other students watched and made disparaging comments. Although the school initiated an investigation and Maryam apologised to Namtira, the family has filed a civil suit demanding a public apology published in two national dailies and seeking N500 million in damages for the school’s failure to provide a safe learning environment and negligence in handling the incident. The lawsuit highlights the school’s alleged breach of duty and negligent conduct, emphasising the emotional distress and trauma suffered by Namtira. The family seeks additional compensation for legal costs and post-judgement interest, urging the court to address the matter appropriately.
