Alabama House passes major school choice expansion, $7,000 per student for education expenses

February 29 2024- The Alabama House of Representatives approved the CHOOSE Act on Tuesday evening, marking a significant step forward in the push for education savings accounts (ESAs). A key agenda for state Republicans, the act aims to broaden school choice by allocating public funding to cover private school, homeschooling, and other educational expenses. Following a four-hour discussion, the bill passed with a 69-34 vote, with six Republicans joining 28 Democrats in opposition.
