The study surveyed K–12 public school teachers regarding various challenges they face in the classroom, particularly among students. Among the issues highlighted are:
- Lack of interest in learning
- Cellphone distractions.
- Behavioural disruptions
Moreover, the study delved into the enforcement of cellphone policies, revealing that high school teachers find them the most challenging to enforce compared to elementary and middle school teachers.
Furthermore, verbal abuse from students is a common experience among teachers, with a majority reporting instances of it. Physical violence, while less frequent, is also reported by a significant portion of teachers.
Additionally, teachers, particularly women, those in elementary and middle schools, and those in high-poverty schools, are more likely to encounter daily behavioural and mental health challenges among students.
Overall, the study sheds light on the multifaceted issues teachers face in managing student behaviour and well-being in the classroom.
