Cambridge Park Academy in Grimsby, a sixth form for special educational needs (SEN) pupils, has received planning approval for an extension that will double its capacity. The expansion will increase staff from 12 to 24 and accommodate up to 28 pupils aged 14-19, addressing a local shortage of suitable SEN facilities. Many pupils currently travel to other areas due to insufficient local provision, exacerbated by rising numbers of education and health care plans issued for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and learning disabilities. The extension aligns with North East Lincolnshire Council’s strategy to enhance alternative specialist provision locally, aiming to reduce the need for pupils to seek education outside the area or in residential settings.
