‘I have Been Blinded’: Corsicana Educator says she Lost Sight in one Eye After Student Attack

Candra Rogers, assistant principal at Collins Intermediate School, was attacked by an aggressive student on August 15. During the incident, Rogers was hit in the right eye by a thrown wooden hanger, which knocked her eye out of its socket and resulted in permanent loss of sight. Despite surgery to reinsert her eye, Rogers faces additional surgeries and potential eye removal. Rogers has expressed gratitude for the support she has received and called for a re-evaluation of Texas Education Code Chapter 37 to improve safety for educators and address the needs of aggressive students. The student involved has been removed from the campus, and the incident is being handled by the Navarro County District Attorney’s Office and the Juvenile Probation Department.
