Journalists can stop tobacco industry from grooming children as smoker-generation replacement — Activists

Rights activists have urged journalists to enhance their reporting on tobacco use and addiction to help prevent the tobacco industry from targeting children. This call to action was made during a web discussion involving 57 media practitioners from 20 African countries, held in honor of World No Tobacco Day on May 31. The theme for the event was “Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference.” Journalists from Nigeria, Kenya, Togo, Zambia, Ghana, Cameroon, and other countries participated in the discussion, which was organized by the Renevlyn Development Initiative (RDI), Vital Voices for Africa (VVA), and Being Africa.
