President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order designating English as the official language of the United States, marking the first time in the country’s 248-year history that the government has established a formal tongue. “From the founding of our Republic, English has been used as our national language,” the order, which was issued March 1, said. “It is therefore long past time that English is declared as the official language of the United States.”
