UNICEF advocates for electronic birth registration in Nigeria to ensure every child receives legal identity rights. Celine Lafoucriere, UNICEF’s Chief for South West Nigeria, highlighted that e-birth registration would not only establish individual identities but also support national planning and development efforts. The initiative, discussed at a media dialogue with Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development and the National Population Commission, aims to register over nine million children under five and four million under one in 2024. Integration with the National Identification Number system is expected to streamline data management and prevent multiple registrations, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in identity management across the country.
